Counselling and coaching:

I use counselling and coaching skills to give you and me deeper insight into your situation, while using coaching skills to help motivate your desired change.

I use the three main stages:

·      Explore

·      Understand

·      Act

I will give continuing solution-focused support (whatever suits you best: weekly, monthly or ad hoc); going through difficult times and where necessary challenging you to help you achieve your aims.

Sessions are normally 50 minutes in length.

Mental Health First Aid:

One in four adults experience mental illness at any given time, says NHS England. Mental health issues such as stress, depression and anxiety are also the prime cause of days off work - accounting for almost 18 million or 51% of days lost in Great Britain in 2019/20, according to the Health and Safety Executive.

MPs are now looking to introduce a law which, if successful, would make mental health first-aid part of first-aid training requirements in workplaces as well as in the wider society – a move which could help individuals and reduce the amount of work days lost as a result of mental health issues.

Increasingly employers are becoming aware of the need to understand and support staff with mental health problems.

Mental health first aid training teaches people the basics of how to help another person developing a mental health problem (including a substance use problem), experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in crisis.

As with traditional first aid, mental health first aid does not teach people to offer treatment or make a diagnose, advise or give medication. The training teaches people how to offer initial support until appropriate professional help is received or until the crisis resolves.

You will learn:

What is mental health?

What is poor mental health?

What is good mental health?

What are common mental health problems?

How to develop core helping skills for those struggling with their mental health.

This is a two-hour online course for either groups or individuals.

Cost: Please ask for details - the cost depends on the number of participants.

Support for Mental Health First Aiders:

Ongoing support sessions are available for mental health first aiders. It is an opportunity to talk about different situations with colleagues and continue working on your personal and professional development.

Sessions are normally 50 minutes in length.

Counselling Students Mentoring:

I have published counselling courses and worked for several years as both a tutor and assessor for those studying counselling.

Many students of counselling and coaching learn the theory but struggle to get enough practice applying their skills of core listening: such as knowing how and when to use reflection; open questions; paraphrasing; active listening; and summarising.

I work one-to-one with trainee coaches, counsellors and those working in the voluntary sector, both professionals and students, where they practice with me their core listening skills to increase their competence and confidence in running sessions of their own.

Practice sessions are normally 50 minutes in length.
